The Matured Disciple

Accepting Jesus Christ as one’s Lord and Saviour is one thing.
Being a matured disciple of the Lord is another. So, how mature
should a Christian be? What is God’s definition of the word
MATURE?

For when for the time ye ought to be teachers,
ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of
the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not
of strong meat.
- Hebrews 5:12The verse above speaks of two types of spiritual food for
Christians. Milk and Strong Meat. What is Milk? What
is Strong Meat? Simply speaking, milk relates to the basic
teachings of Christianity (first principles of the oracles of
God). Strong Meat speaks of something deeper. It speaks of
self-denial, total surrender, about offering our very own lives as
living sacrifices to the Lord.

Here are a couple of verses to ponder upon:

Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. - Matthew 16:24

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye
present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God,
which is your reasonable service.
- Romans 12:1

Now, let’s do some simple checking. Do you easily get mad?
Does your faith stumble often? Do you (most of the time) arrive
late at church services and other gatherings? Do you share the
gospel to the people around you? Do you lie? Are you afraid
to die for your faith? What if someone would kill a loved one
(say, your child) if you don’t turn back at Christ, what would you
do? Do you read the bible regularly? How often do you
pray? Do you still watch pirated videos? Do you use pirated
software?

There are more questions that I can ask but I’m sure you already get my point.

The difficult part in becoming a mature Christian is when people - both
unbelievers and Christian brethren - start to think that you’re so
radical. But don’t think about them. Rather, think about
Jesus. Think at what He would say. Ask for His help.
After all, it is Him we serve so it is Him we must follow.

God bless you all!
